Gamification, a winning concept!

Gamification, a winning concept!

Gamification, the popular concept of using game mechanisms in any field!

The concept?

What if everything we did could be done in the form of a game to make everyday life more entertaining? No ? You don’t believe it?

Well, gamification makes it possible! The concept consists of transforming actions that are often boring or restrictive into fun by using the mechanisms used in video games: setting up quests, collecting experience points or simply challenging friends.

The main aim is to increase the commitment of the people involved and influence their behaviour.
All areas are concerned: training, employee commitment, marketing… There are many ideas, and little by little, games are invading our daily lives.

According to a study by the AFJV (French Video Games Agency), “The gamification market is currently booming and is estimated to be worth 6.8 billion dollars in 2018. Experts are predicting growth of 32%, for an estimated global turnover of 40 billion dollars in 2024”, so it’s safe to say that this concept has a bright future ahead of it, and so much the better!

Mechanics based on video games

There are many mechanisms used in video games, but the codes most recognised by most of us are the following:

As you can see, actions immediately become more fun. It’s all about encouraging behaviour in line with your objectives.

To give you a concrete example, let’s take daily housework. If we were rewarded with a gift every time the house was cleaned, we’d immediately be much more motivated to do them (and to ask for new ones, incidentally)!

A phenomenon that is spreading to all areas

It’s a concept that’s becoming increasingly popular, particularly in the corporate world, as a way of encouraging employee participation, training them, getting them involved in a project, but also as a way of encouraging consumers to be loyal to our product or company.

Beyond the professional world, gamification can be applied to many other areas: Shopping platforms and their loyalty programmes, which set up tiered reward systems as soon as a purchase or several purchases are made; The world of education and training, which uses this system to help their students progress while providing them with knowledge in an entertaining way; The world of health and well-being, which uses gamification to encourage people to take care of their bodies; But also and increasingly Community Management, to engage and retain their community over the long term…

There are so many examples, and their success is down to the fact that nothing is more attractive than video games. We all want to see ourselves evolve, go further, and get the best out of ourselves… thanks to a system that encourages us to achieve our goals.

When gamification meets sport

Today, we are less and less active because society encourages us to procrastinate… home food deliveries, the democratisation of teleworking, time spent in front of screens… all these new services and innovations encourage us to be sedentary.

To maintain a healthy lifestyle, the WHO recommends 1 hour’s sport a day. Yet the vast majority of the population is far from practising this recommended minimum.

Gamification is an ideal tool for increasing interest in exercise among sportspeople or gamers, and is a good way of keeping your resolutions: in fact, some applications help you to create new habits and keep them over the long term.

When gamification meets sport

NeoXperiences transforms living spaces such as shopping centres, schools, sports and leisure centres and events into immersive, interactive spaces thanks to a comprehensive catalogue of activities and its Neo-One technology.

Its raison d’être? To renew physical activity. And how do we do that? By combining sport with the pleasure of digital entertainment and video games in a single space. Where can it be found? Wherever technology can come to life, a wall or an open space will suffice.

Gamification is used here to encourage players to play more games and therefore engage in physical activity without realising it. Points, rankings, levels, badges, missions… are essential tools for achieving this objective.
